Welcome Message

Hello and welcome to the Intensive English Program (IEP) web site at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The IEP mission is to provide academic ESL instruction and cultural orientation for English language learners who are interested in pursuing degrees at the University of Texas at San Antonio or other US institutions or who are interested in improving their English proficiency for professional reasons.

The IEP offers:
*Small classes (8 – 15 students per class)
*Experienced, trained professional ESL instructors
*Computer lab for Reading and Writing classes
*Language Lab for Listening and Speaking classes
*Library privileges
*at least 24 hours instructional hours each week
*Institutional TOEFL tests twice a semester

We hope you enjoy surfing these pages as you learn about the IEP. You will discover that it is an excellent program for people who want to learn English so they can succeed in academic programs in the United States.
Our goal in the IEP is for our ESL students to increase their abilities and confidence in English, as well as to experience what a US classroom is like. The IEP forms a partnership between motivated students, qualified instructors and a supportive university community so that students can use English to achieve their dreams. ESL students are considered regular members of the university and can join all events and clubs. We hope you will begin this language learning adventure and fill out an application for the IEP. If you have any questions after you have read these web pages, please contact us at eslservices@utsa.edu. Thank you for your interest in the IEP. We look forward to hearing from you! Come to Texas and study English as a Second Language (ESL)

***Please note, the IEP is an academic preparation program. We expect students to be at least High Beginning students. We do not require a TOEFL score, but it is highly recommended that a student have around a 400+ TOEFL score.
